🔑FIFA releases hotel holds; Arlington Foundation awards $1.9M; Change for hunting/fishing licenses.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved proof-of-residency requirements to purchase a recreational hunting or fishing license. The changes are an attempt to prevent fraud and ensure only eligible residents receive lower-priced licenses and benefits. The regulations take effect Aug. 1 and annual licenses go on sale August 15.

Fort Worth-based Olympus Property acquired Ascend by the Sea, a new 216-unit Class A luxury apartment community in Millville, along southern Delaware's Beaches corridor. Olympus Property focuses on acquiring assets in markets with limited new supply and strong demand. The firm has self-managed its properties for nearly 35 years.

This was expected: FIFA cancels hotel reservation blocks in Dallas, Arlington ahead of the nine scheduled World Cup games.

SmartAsset’s 2026 report analyzing how much it costs to live "in sustainable comfort” found Dallas single adult residents need to make $96,970 a year, $1,040 more than last year. Families with two working parents and two children need to make a household income of $214,490. Fort Worth and Arlington had similar numbers, with single adults needing a $97,552 salary, and $217,235 for working families of four.

Irving-based Bimbo Bakeries USA was awarded a maximum $21,375,000, 3-year contract for fresh bread and bakery items for the Army and Air Force.

Fort Worth ISD released new Superintendent Peter Licata’s temporary contract, which pays him $1,384.62 per day and includes a $25,000 relocation stipend. The daily pay structure for the state-appointed role is based on a pro-rata amount of the previous Superintendent’s salary and represents compensation for each actual day of work, rather than a standard five-day work week. 

Dallas-based Buckner Retirement Services, in a joint venture with Presbyterian Homes & Services, has acquired a Bedford independent living-only facility formerly called Parkwood. The location at 2600 Parkview Lane has been re-named Lightwell.

The office of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated an investigation of companies that sell solar panel systems and are "engaging in fraudulent and deceptive practices." Actions being investigated include misrepresentations regarding savings for consumers on their energy bills, the efficacy of their solar panel systems, equipment implementations and companies’ terms and policies.

The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation awarded $1,904,740 to eight entities during its 2026 board meeting. Since its creation, the foundation has funded more than 500 grants for approximately $46 million to Arlington non-profit organizations, City of Arlington departments and neighborhood groups for projects that help the public.

A $45-million Children’s Health StarCenter Multisport-Northlake has opened. It is the ninth StarCenter in north Texas. There is public skating, an open gym for basketball and volleyball, and hockey showcases for the Victory Green Girls Hockey League. Dallas Pulse volleyball players and former Dallas Stars players were on site for the opening.

Lockheed Martin Aeronautics received a $48,544,341 modifiction award to procure special tooling and test equipment in support of F-35 production and modifications for the Joint Strike Fighter program for the Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, and F-35 Cooperative Program Partners. 48% of the work will be performed in Fort Worth and is expected to be completed by March 2031.
