D-FW International Airport in Grapevine is marking 50 years. William Tate has been Mayor for 43 of those years. He told the Dallas Morning News how Grapevine is a very different city because of the development. It gave up thousands of acres for the airport -- property that generates no tax revenue. “We were a small rural farming community when the airport started and had about 7,000 residents (51k now). We’ve had success, but it hasn’t been easy. If we had that 8,000 acres back on the tax rolls and us being in the center of the Metroplex, we would have probably been a much different city — probably more like Frisco."
