📣NEWS OF THE DAY:

The visiting Texas Rangers scored five runs in the second and third innings and walloped the Arizona Diamondbacks, 11-7, last night. The Rangers are one victory away from their first World Series championship; the franchise arrived in Texas in 1972 and lost its two previous World Series--2010 and 2011. Game 5 in the best-of-7 is tonight in Arizona at 7 pm. If necessary, Games 6 and 7 would be played Friday and Saturday in Arlington.

U.S. Rep. Kay Granger, R-Fort Worth, is unlikely to run for reelection after serving two decades in Congress, according to multiple sources.

Hawks Creek Golf Club will be the home of a new golf and food venue tentatively named Bombers.

Christian Lehrmann, chef of Tinies restaurant in Fort Worth, says he will open a restaurant and golf entertainment venue in Westworth Village in 2024. The concept is a partnership with pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau and others as part of UnderPar Life, a new golf-party-food-and-bar startup company. The venue will be located at the city-owned Hawks Creek Golf Club and will feature a 100-seat restaurant and bar, a burger grill and patio, and 42 hitting bays. The restaurant is a partnership with Taco Heads founder Sarah Castillo. 

Meadowbrook, a city of Fort Worth golf course, turns 100 next year and is getting a makeover. The new design is set to begin by year end and renovations are expected to be completed by summer 2025.

Fort Worth-based Elbit Systems of America is one of two companies selected by the U.S. Army to develop prototypes of a next-generation laser targeting system that troops can carry and use in the field to scout locations and coordinate strikes. Elbit will work with Leonardo DRS on the Joint Effects Targeting System II project, according to contract announcements.

Star-Telegram columnist Bud Kennedy reports that Ranchman’s Ponder Steakhouse, a 75-year Denton County landmark and one of America’s most famous small-town cafes, is for sale and closed.

“Ranchman’s was as Texas as you can get” according to owner Dave Ross.

Colonial Country Club’s Birdies For Charity raised a record $20 million for 33 local nonprofits through the PGA Tour’s Charles Schwab Challenge. In Birdies For Charity, local nonprofit groups secure pledges from friends and businesses for birdies. PGA Tour pros made 1,079 birdies during the tournament. Colonial has generated cash and services valued at more than $200 million for more than 150 different organizations.

To celebrate its 40 years of serving the community, Trinity Metro is offering free rides for all passengers traveling in Tarrant County for the month of November. That includes all buses, TEXRail, ZIPZONE on-demand rideshare services, and ACCESS paratransit. Plus, passengers will enjoy free rides in the west zone of Trinity Railway Express.

An analysis by Forbes of the 25 largest U.S. cities says that Fort Worth ranks No. 10 as the city with the worst commute. The publication used eight different data points to come up with the ranking. The worst cities ranked ahead of Fort Worth were Nashville, Charlotte, Jacksonville, Houston, Washington, D.C., New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and Dallas.

Southlake Carroll Senior High School landed the No. 3 ranking in Niche's annual list of the top 25 public high schools in D-FW. Rankings are based on statistics and reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Ranking factors include state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, teacher quality, and high school ratings. Other public high schools from Tarrant County that made the list were Westlake Academy (No. 22) and Colleyville Heritage (No. 25). See the complete rankings here.
