📣NEWS OF THE DAY:

The Texas Rangers are one win from their first World Series appearance since 2010 and 2011. Home runs by Mitch Garver and Jonah Heim, and a grand slam by Adolis Garcia Sunday night gave the Rangers a 9-2 victory and tied the AL Championship Series with the Houston Astros at three games apiece. See game recap and game analysis here. Through the first six games, neither team has won a home game. Game 7 in the best-of-7 series is at 7:03 tonight and is being played in Houston.

Alcon Laboratories filed with the city of Fort Worth plans of a possible expansion with a 250,000-square-foot, $100-million manufacturing plant adjacent to and east of its campus off I-35 at 6201 South Freeway. Alcon is the world’s largest eye care device company and a top-10 Fort Worth employer.

American Airlines has agreed to a deal to acquire Alaska Airlines' recently retired Airbus A321neo fleet of 10 planes. And according to Brazilian plane maker Embracer, American has placed an order for four of its E175 jets to fly with it subsidiary Envoy Air.

Real estate developer Hillwood is working to position AllianceTexas as a “catcher’s mitt” for goods traveling north from Mexico as reshoring has caused manufacturing growth south of the border, according to Mike Berry, President of Hillwood, in an interview with the Dallas Business Journal. Hillwood historically has focused on goods flowing in from Asia. According to Berry: "It’s not just the automotive sector. It’s a number of high-tech industry players ... I think that’s only going to continue ... It can come right here, and then we become a central place for final assembly, for additional manufacturing, for distribution."

Grapevine's Insight Realty Network is merging with Dallas-based United Real Estate, growing United's agent count to 830 in north Texas. They will operate as United Real Estate | DFW Properties out of Fort Worth and Grapevine with Insight owner Andy Bearden as CEO.

Cook Children’s has opened the doors to the Jane and John Justin Institute for Mind Health. The Justin Institute will connect nine specialties under one roof, including Neurology, Neuropsychology, Neurosurgery, Pain Management, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychology, Psychiatry, Developmental Pediatrics and Developmental Psychology. Having all the specialties as part of one institute will help increase collaboration amongst the disciplines as well as get patients to the appropriate resources more quickly.

The regulatory filing summaries below are from firms who are raising capital for a new project, investment idea or other venture. Although details are limited, they provide a snapshot of what investors are potentially planning.

  • Southlake-based investment firm 151 Capital Management has raised more than $5 million in equity from 22 investors for a fund titled "151 Alternative Performance Fund I LLC," according to a federal filing. 151 Capital invests in life insurance policies on the secondary market. The firm is led by Managing Partner Marcus Novacheck.

  • Fort Worth-based commercial real estate investment firm Joint Venture Equity Partners has raised $2.58 million in equity from 12 investors for a fund titled "JVEP Commerce Centre LLC." Founded by Principal Elizabeth Roll, the firm offers investments in multifamily, industrial, retail, office, land, senior housing and student housing to fee-only financial advisors, family offices and select high-net-worth individuals.

  • Fort Worth-based investment firm Eagle Capital International has raised $7.67 million from 37 investors for "Eagle Venture Fund III LP," and $1.32 million from four investors for "Eagle City Fund Dallas LP". The Eagle Venture Fund is led by Wes Lyons and invests in early-stage companies.

Employees in Fort Worth’s Environmental Services Department are motoring around the city in two Volkswagen Beetles as a way to educate residents on proper bulk waste disposal. The VW Bug is a marketing tool to illustrate the limits on the size and volume of bulk waste allowed curbside.

The city uses the colorful vehicles on daily errands and at community events.

Restaurant round-up:

  • Teddy Wong’s is open at 812 W. Rosedale St. The Asian restaurant and wine bar is centered around great wines and an extensive selection of dumplings. Chef Patrick Ru previously ran a Top Ten Best Dumpling Restaurant in New York. (menu)

  • Plank Seafood Provisions is open at Shops at Clearfork. The coastal-inspired oyster bar and wood-fire seafood grill is the sister of Blue Sushi Sake Grill on West 7th & University Drive. Both are operated by Flagship Restaurant Group. (menu)

  • Reata Restaurant déjà vu. The well-known restaurant is leaving its long-time location at 310 Houston St. in Sundance Square in June of 2024, and will reopen in July of next year at an interim location in The Tower at 530 Throckmorton St. A more permanent home is TBD. The Tower is where Reata occupied a rooftop location until the building was struck by a tornado 23 years ago.
